Approximately 45% of vehicle recalls for defective Takata airbags have been completed in Cyprus, according to the Director of the Department of Road Transport (TOM), Giorgos Loukas.

Out of the 81,060 vehicles announced for recall on February 3, 2025, 45,734 are still pending. However, of these, 5,000 are immobilized and 3,000 have been written off, leaving approximately 37,000 vehicles requiring airbag replacement.

Mr. Loukas stated that dealerships have increased their pace due to the arrival of necessary parts. He urged the public to schedule appointments for replacement, which must be completed by October 3, 2025.

He also noted that companies are continuously adding vehicles to the recall lists as new recalls arise from factories. TOM announces these recalls and allows eight months for the replacement to be implemented.
