Verdict Announcement on Monday in Giannios Death Case

The court will announce on Monday, June 30, the sentence to be imposed on Staff Sergeant Marino Ioannou, who was found guilty of causing death by reckless act.

The case concerns the death of Contract Soldier Panagiotis Giannios on June 27, 2022, during a National Guard military exercise.

Ioannou's defense attorney submitted a written plea for mitigation of the sentence, expressing condolences to the family of the deceased and referring to the defendant's qualifications. He also emphasized Ioannou's immediate reaction to the incident.

The personal circumstances of the Staff Sergeant, who has three children, were also mentioned, asking the Court to take them into account.
