An explosion occurred at a metal recycling factory in Aradippou on Friday (29/08) around 9:45 AM, injuring three people.

According to the Police, a 52-year-old Greek Cypriot man went to the site with a double-cabin vehicle to deliver scrap metal. During unloading, an explosion occurred, injuring himself, a foreign employee, and another citizen.

The injured were taken to the hospital conscious, but one underwent surgery. They sustained shrapnel wounds to the abdomen and lower extremities, and their condition is considered serious.

Authorities are investigating the possibility that the 52-year-old was transporting scrap metal from a firing range, and the explosion was caused by gunpowder or an active projectile due to the heat. Explosives experts from the Police, the National Guard, and the Labour Inspection Department are participating in the investigation.
