Aradippou Explosion: 42-Year-Old Seriously Injured – Spleen Removed

A 42-year-old man is in serious condition after being injured in an explosion at a metal recycling plant in Aradippou. Two other individuals, aged 52 and 39, were also injured.
According to Spyros Chrysostomou, spokesperson for the Larnaca Police Directorate, the three injured individuals underwent surgery at Larnaca General Hospital to remove fragments. The 42-year-old's condition is the most serious, as he suffered a ruptured spleen and had it removed.
Police investigations are ongoing to clarify how the 52-year-old obtained the unexploded military ordnance. The police are awaiting a statement from the injured man.
The competent authorities will re-examine the operating licenses of the business, while the police are conducting their own investigations.
It is noted that the 39-year-old has been residing illegally in the Republic of Cyprus since 2023.
The explosion occurred when the 52-year-old went to the site with metals. During unloading, the explosion occurred, injuring himself, an employee, and a citizen.
Larnaca Police Director Ioannis Sotiriadis, police and National Guard ordnance experts, as well as members of the Labor Inspection Service and the Fire Service, arrived at the scene.
