Increased Reports of Domestic Violence in Cyprus in 2025

Increased reports of domestic violence were recorded in Cyprus in 2025, according to the Police. Evi Nikolaou, Head of the Sub-Directorate for the Management of Cases of Vulnerable Persons, reported that complaints had increased, and 14 people used the "panic button" since July 2025.

Since 2021, complaints have averaged 3000 incidents per year, but 2025 showed an increase, without reaching 4000. Ms. Nikolaou stressed the importance of cooperation with the Social Welfare Services and other agencies.

The Commissioner for Gender Equality, Tzosi Christodoulou, stressed the need for actions aimed at changing perceptions about gender-based violence and focusing on the perpetrator.
