Share on:

Police in Australia are conducting a manhunt for a gunman who killed two police officers and injured another in a rural area of Victoria. The incident occurred when the officers attempted to serve an arrest warrant for sexual assault charges.

According to local media, the gunman opened fire on the officers, ambushing them. The perpetrator fled with family members, including children. Police believe the gunman is a 'sovereign citizen,' meaning a person who believes they are not subject to the laws of the state.

The Commissioner of the Australian Federal Police, Reece Kershaw, expressed concern for the officers involved. The mayor of Porepunkah, Sarah Nicholas, expressed her condolences to the families of the victims. Public facilities in the town remain closed.

Victoria Police have urged residents to avoid the Porepunkah area, which is located approximately 300 kilometers northeast of Melbourne. The local airport has also been closed due to the emergency situation.
