German Real Estate Agent Trial: Verdict on October 8

The trial within a trial for German real estate agent, Eva Isabella Künzel, before the Nicosia Criminal Court is entering its final stretch. The verdict is expected on October 8.
The case concerns charges of misappropriating Greek Cypriot properties in the occupied territories. The legality of her arrest at Larnaca Airport on July 7, 2024, and the observance of her rights, are at the center of the proceedings.
The defense disputes the validity of the consent form for searching her luggage, citing a handwriting expert's report. The prosecution and defense submitted written pleadings, based on national and European jurisprudence.
Anna Matthaiou, representing the prosecution, argued that the defendant understood English and was informed of her rights. Lawyer Sotiris Argyrou, on behalf of the defense, spoke of a violation of Articles 11.4 of the Constitution and Law 163(1)/2005.
Four pieces of evidence were withdrawn by the prosecution. The defendant remains in custody. The defense opposes the addition of new witnesses, while the trial will continue three times a week after October 8.
