The trial begins for the death of Rania in Anopoli, Heraklion, who was hit by a car driven by a 33-year-old French man in December 2024. The 36-year-old's brother, Giannis Bournelis, refers to the gaps in the mental health management system, in the wake of the Glyfada patricide.

According to neakriti.gr, Giannis Bournelis stated that the family now has a clear picture of the omissions that led to his sister's death. He referred to the gaps in the flow of information between the National Health System (ESY), the police, prosecutorial and judicial authorities, as well as in the application of the law on involuntary hospitalization.

The 33-year-old Frenchman allegedly had a history of mental illness and had been involved with the authorities in the past. After his arrest, he presented contradictory claims about his motive.

The trial is expected on March 10, 2026.
