Giannakis Trial: Acquitted of 5 Charges

Former Commissioner for Volunteerism, Giannis Giannakis, has been acquitted of 5 charges in the Nicosia District Court. The charges related to the creation of a false document and the circulation of a false letter of recommendation.

Mr. Giannakis has already admitted to three charges related to the circulation of forged official documents, claiming that he presented documents to the Republic of Cyprus as official from an American University and a Cypriot Lyceum.

Initially, Giannis Giannakis faced nine charges, one of which was suspended. In April, he admitted to the three most serious charges, which carry a prison sentence of up to ten years. The case is being heard by a District Court, where the sentence can be up to 5 years.
