Giannakis Trial: Acquitted of 5 Charges

A significant development occurred in the case of former Commissioner of Volunteerism, Giannis Giannakis, as he was acquitted of five charges in the Nicosia District Court. The charges related to the creation of a forged document and the circulation of a forged letter of recommendation.
Mr. Giannakis has already admitted to three charges (1, 2, 8) regarding the circulation of forged official documents knowingly. Specifically, he is accused of presenting documents to the Republic of Cyprus as official from an American University and a Cypriot High School.
Initially, Giannis Giannakis faced nine charges, with one being suspended. In April, he admitted to three of the remaining eight, which carry a prison sentence of up to ten years. However, due to the District Court, the sentence may be up to 5 years, while the circulation of a forged letter of recommendation carries a three-year sentence.
