Giannakis Trial: Defense and Legal Service Arguments
Share on:

The trial of Giannis Giannakis continues, with the defense focusing on the time elapsed since the offenses, arguing that 30 years have passed since their client was 31 and 32 years old, respectively, while now he is 61 years old. The lawyer cited case law to support that this factor should be taken into account when assessing the sentence.

According to the defense, Giannis Giannakis admitted that in two cases he circulated forged documents: a forged university degree on 10/2/95 and on 28/11/96, in the same application, he circulated the university degree with two stamps and a high school diploma. They claimed that the documents were found in his possession for an unknown reason and in an unknown way, and he is not accused of having drawn them up or altered them, hence the charges were dropped.

The article mentions that the Legal Service initially did not include the 2021 case in the charge of circulating a forged degree to avoid complications. Also, when the issue of charges for obtaining money under false pretenses and legalizing proceeds from illegal activities was raised, the Legal Service ruled that such a charge could not stand.
