Lawyer Requests Sentence Suspension for Convict Rape Victim in Central Prisons

The file containing the complaint of a convict rape in the Central Prisons is being forwarded to the Legal Service, following the completion of investigations.

The Prison Department states that it has been informed by the Police that the criminal investigation is at an advanced stage. After the completion of the procedure, it will take any other steps that may be required.

The prisoner's lawyer, Leto Kariolou, is requesting that his sentence be suspended and that independent criminal investigators be appointed to fully investigate the criminal offenses. She also requests the availability of all involved officials.

According to the complaint, her client was repeatedly raped by fellow inmates inside his cell, with the perpetrators recording the abuse with a mobile phone. The material was distributed both inside and outside the prison.
