Paphos City Hall Under Police Guard After Mayor's Suspension

Paphos City Hall was placed under police guard overnight following the announcement of the automatic suspension of Paphos Mayor, Phaedon Phaedonos. The suspension was imposed by the Ministry of Interior pending the completion of investigations and the adjudication of cases against him.

Mr. Phaedonos visited Paphos City Hall on Wednesday to collect his personal belongings, under discreet police presence. Deputy Mayor of Paphos, Angelos Onisiforou, is temporarily assuming the duties of Mayor.

Mr. Onisiforou assured that the Municipality will continue to operate normally, prioritizing the service of citizens. Minister of Interior, Konstantinos Ioannou, was expected to return and approve the relevant notification for publication in the Official Gazette of the Republic.

Police continue their investigations regarding the allegations against the Mayor of Paphos. Police Spokesperson, Vyronas Vyronos, stated that statements have been taken and data is being evaluated.
