Ypsonas Double Homicide: Double Life Sentence for One Defendant

The Limassol Permanent Criminal Court found two Greek Cypriots guilty today in connection with the double homicide in Ypsonas on June 29, 2023. The victims were two Greek Cypriot men.
The first defendant was sentenced to two consecutive life sentences for premeditated murder. The court agreed with the prosecution that the defendant was in a calm state of mind and inflicted fatal blows on the victims with a knife he was carrying.
The second defendant was found guilty of manslaughter. The court found that he had a common purpose with the first defendant to attack the victims and could reasonably foresee their deaths. His sentence will be announced at a later hearing.
The hearing began in February 2024, with the prosecution presenting 37 witnesses.
The case was handled by Mr. Andreas Aristides and Ms. Louiza Sigar on behalf of the Attorney General.
