Court Rejects Doctor's Appeal in Indecent Assault Case

The Court of Appeal has rejected the appeal of a doctor who was sentenced to four months in prison in March 2023 for indecent assault. The doctor was found guilty on four counts of indecent assault for kissing his patient four times on the same day. The Nicosia District Court imposed a four-month prison sentence for each count.
The doctor appealed to the Court of Appeal, challenging both his conviction and sentence, while the Attorney General also filed an appeal, considering the sentences insufficient. The offenses occurred in 2020 when the 23-year-old complainant underwent anesthesia for an examination. Upon regaining consciousness, she realized that the doctor was alone with her and kissed her on the mouth four times.
The Court of Appeal (judges Charalambous, Konis, and Stylianou) ruled that the imposed sentences were lenient, considering the increase in the prescribed penalty in 2009 and the four distinct indecent assaults. The Court of Appeal rejected both the doctor's appeal and the Attorney General's appeal.
