Hi-Tech SMS Scam Busted in Spata: How it Worked

Two Chinese nationals were arrested in Spata for a hi-tech scam, using special equipment in their car's trunk to steal citizens' banking data.
The perpetrators used the "SMS Blaster Attack" method, posing as a mobile phone tower. This way, victims' phones connected to their fake antenna, allowing them to send misleading SMS messages that appeared genuine.
The messages usually contained links leading to fake bank websites, with the aim of stealing codes and card details. The attack exploits weaknesses in the 2G protocol.
The arrested individuals had installed a computer system with a router and antenna in their car. They sent SMS messages with a fake sender ID, displaying an official body or banking institution as the sender.
Protection tips:
- Do not trust the sender's name.
- Do not click on links in suspicious messages.
- If you suspect something, restart your phone or activate "Airplane Mode."
