Police Report on Fires: Recommendations to the President

The Chief of Police, Themistocles Arnaoutis, submitted a report to the President of the Republic regarding the actions of the Police in dealing with the fire in mountainous Limassol on July 23. The report includes three recommendations regarding the Command Station, information dissemination, and the national plan "Pyrsos."
The report emphasizes that the Police immediately took measures to secure the fire areas, including road closures and ensuring access for fire trucks. It also collaborated with other services to protect citizens and evacuate villages, monasteries, and campsites.
The report was prepared following instructions from the President of the Republic, after a meeting held on July 27 at the Presidential residence in Troodos. The Limassol CID is investigating the causes of the fire and the circumstances surrounding the death of the Filippidis couple.
The Chief of Police recommends restricting access to the Command Station, a single press representative for information, and a revision of the Special National Plan "Pyrsos."
In total, 145 members of the Police and 54 police vehicles were used in the operations. The Limassol Police Department was reinforced with personnel from various police divisions.
The first announcement from the Police Press Office concerned the closure of the Malia — Omodos and Malia - Arsos roads.
