Report on Abused Women of 1974 Delivered to Guterres

A report on the abused women of 1974 by the Turkish army, compiled by the European Parliament's Committee on Women's Rights and Gender Equality, was recently delivered to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres by MEP Loukas Fourlas.
The report emphasizes that “the victims of sexual violence during the Turkish invasion deserve justice, recognition and support from the international community.” It includes shocking testimonies, such as that of a woman, now 74 years old, who described the atrocities she suffered along with other Greek Cypriot women, held captive for three months in occupied Palaikythro and Voni.
The woman reported systematic rapes and abuse. "They raped me one after the other... The first time in Palaikythro, they took me outside to an open area in the dirt. Three or four raped me... After Palaikythro, they took us to Voni where they raped us every morning," she stated.
The report is an important step towards the vindication of the women of the 1974 war zone.
