The Audit Office of the Republic of Cyprus has raised suspicions of potential negligence by state officials regarding the handling of a concert held at a businessman's birthday party in Peyia. The Audit Office suggests the Department of Environment's management of the event raises questions about serving private interests.

In a statement, the Audit Office referred to statements made by the Mayor of Akamas, Marinos Lambrou, the President of EOA Paphos, Charalambos Pittokopitis, and the Director of the Environmental Authority, Theodoulos Mesimeris, regarding the stage and speakers used for the concert, emphasizing the risks to the environmentally sensitive area.

The Audit Office disagrees with Mr. Mesimeris' claim that the Department of Environment lacks the legal tools to intervene in advance, calling the claim a misleading message.

The Audit Office also questions the connection of the party to the annual Carob Festival, arguing that the placement of the stage was in a different location and without the necessary permits.

The office expressed concern that the competent authorities, although aware of the party and the risks it posed, did not take immediate action to prevent it.

A letter has been sent to the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, and depending on the response and further investigation, a decision will be made on whether to refer the matter to the competent bodies.
