YKAN Operation: Raids in Famagusta Shops, Seizing Illegal Substances

A coordinated operation by the Police and the Ministry of Health took place in shops in the Famagusta district, aimed at seizing controlled pharmaceutical and narcotic substances.
The operation involved members of YKAN, the Ayia Napa Police Station, as well as officials from the Pharmaceutical and Health Services of the Ministry of Health. Raids were conducted in two shops.
In the first shop, 62 packages of products believed to contain tetrahydrocannabinol – THC, as well as 24 packages of handmade herbal cigarettes, were seized.
In the second shop, 21 packages of products believed to contain cannabidiol – CBD, 5 packages with THC, 5 e-cigarettes labeled THC, 20 packages of herbal material, 6 handmade herbal cigarettes, 3 packages of brown solid substance, and 4 packages that were detained for examination in relation to food legislation were found.
All products were detained for further examination. YKAN (Famagusta District Unit) and the Ayia Napa Police Station are conducting investigations.
It is recalled that, according to an announcement by the Pharmaceutical Services (June 2022), products with CBD are classified as pharmaceutical products and require a marketing authorization for their sale.
