Deadly Fire in Limassol: One Dead and Incalculable Damage

Tragedy in mountainous Limassol with a massive fire causing incalculable damage and one fatality. A person was found dead in a vehicle in the Lania-Alassa area. The fire, which started at noon, has burned through thirteen communities.
Three hundred firefighters and 75 vehicles are operating throughout the night, while assistance is expected from Jordan and Spain. The fire started in the Mallia community and spread rapidly, leaving behind ash and burned properties.
Evacuation orders were issued for communities such as Agios Amvrosios, Kyvides, Souni-Zanatzia, Agios Therapon, Potamiou, Mallia, Vasa, Vouni, Koilani, Lofou, Kantou, Pera Pedi, Monagri, Souni, part of Ypsona, and Erimi. Camping sites in Platres, Pera Pedi, and Agia Mavri were also evacuated.
Dozens of children from a summer camp in Kato Platres were evacuated by buses and safely transported to Limassol. Police have closed roads to traffic.
The President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, and the Minister of Justice Marios Hartsiotis visited the coordination center. Hospitals have been put on alert to deal with any incidents.
Approximately 70 people are being accommodated in Civil Defense shelters in Trimiklini and Pachna. Difficult weather conditions are expected with high temperatures and strong winds.
