Deadly Fire in Cyprus: Couple Found Charred While Trying to Escape

A tragic death occurred in Cyprus as an elderly couple was found charred in their car while trying to escape the flames of a fire in the Sylikou area. The couple was discovered on the Monagriou to Alassa road.
According to the community leader of Sylikou, Nikos Arestis, the couple were Greek Cypriots with a holiday home in the area. They were informed about the evacuation of the village and attempted to reach their permanent residence in Limassol.
Authorities are investigating the circumstances under which the couple was found on that particular road. DNA samples have been taken to confirm the victims' identities, and autopsies will be performed.
Police confirmed that the vehicle belonged to the 77-year-old woman, and her 84-year-old husband had been reported missing. The Monagriou-Alassa road remained open, unlike other roads in the area.
Fire Service spokesperson Andreas Kettis stated that there were recommendations to avoid using the roads, but many drivers ignored the warnings.
