Cyprus Prisons: Improvement Works Within 6 Months

A meeting was held under the Minister of Justice, Kostas Fytiris, regarding the improvement works at the Prisons. According to an announcement, the works are expected to be completed within three to six months.

The meeting was attended by directors and staff from the Department of Public Works, the Electromechanical Service, and the Directorate of Central Prisons.

The planned projects include the renovation of medical facilities, the creation of a new entrance exclusively for prison staff, the construction of a new clothing storage, a new medical facility in the Open Prisons, a new laundry area, and the implementation of a mobile phone jamming system.

Furthermore, the procurement of an electronic monitoring system is underway to expand the possibilities of conditional release.
