Kargakides: Revelry and Transfers in Alikarnassos Prison

Three pre-trial detainees from the Kargakides family and four convicts allegedly organized revelries with alcohol and expensive fish in Alikarnassos prison, which were ordered via delivery. According to ERT, the seven had formed a leadership team and enjoyed amenities, while possessing mobile phones.

The prisoners were suddenly transferred to prisons in mainland Greece. Among them were relatives of the 39-year-old Fanouris Kargakis, the alleged leader of the Chania mafia, a convict for arson of garbage trucks, an accused of a double shooting and attempted murder, and a convict for livestock theft.

EKAM units raided the prison and isolated the prisoners, who are considered "high risk." They were initially transferred to the Heraklion Police Headquarters and then to the port, where they boarded a ship to Athens.

The decision to transfer is linked to recent events and the concern of the prison administration. Mobile phones and makeshift knives had been found in the cells in a previous search.
