A major operation against the sale of counterfeit goods was carried out on July 30 by the Customs Department in cooperation with the Police, in tourist areas of free Famagusta.

During searches at seven stores (three in Protaras and four in Ayia Napa), approximately 4,000 items of counterfeit clothing and accessories (watches, sunglasses, bags, hats, wallets) were found.

The owners of the four stores admitted the offenses and abandoned the seized items for destruction, accepting an out-of-court settlement of €4,300.

The Customs Department urges consumers to be careful, as thousands of counterfeits are circulating, produced in appalling conditions, dangerous to health, and a source of funding for organized crime.

Combating the trade in counterfeits is a priority for the Authorities.
