Cyprus Central Prisons: 8 defendants plead not guilty in document case

The eight defendants in the Central Prisons document case, which involved documents found at the home of a chief prison guard, pleaded not guilty before the Nicosia Criminal Court on Tuesday.

Among the defendants are the former Director of Central Prisons, Anna Aristotelous, the former Deputy Director, Athina Dimitriou, five members of the correctional institution, and one former member who is now a police officer.

The defendants face nine common charges, including conspiracy to commit a felony, theft of state property (48,432 documents), theft of 370 architectural plans of the Central Prisons, and theft of 431 items, including digital disks and other electronic devices.

Anna Aristotelous faces an additional charge for leaking classified documents during her tenure as Director.
