Cruise Ship with Israeli Tourists Docks in Cyprus After Blockade in Syros

The cruise ship Crown Iris, carrying 1,600 Israeli tourists, has docked in Cyprus after facing protests in Syros on Tuesday (July 22). Protesters, demonstrating against the war in Gaza, prevented the tourists from disembarking by raising Palestinian flags and chanting slogans.
According to testimonies and information from The Guardian, the Israeli tourists responded by raising Israeli flags and chanting patriotic slogans. The incident has caused division within the local community of Syros.
Citizens and tourism professionals expressed concerns about the impact on the island's image and the local economy. Adonis Georgiadis expressed his anger at the incident, stressing that it is unthinkable to prevent tourists from vacationing in Greece and apologized to the tourists.
The Minister of Health added that two prosecutors were present who judged whether intervention was necessary.
