Police are investigating a scam involving the unauthorized replacement of windshield wipers on cars across Cyprus. The investigation was triggered by an incident in the community of Timi, Paphos district, where a citizen was assaulted.

According to police sources, the incident last Sunday in Timi, where foreigners replaced a car's windshield wipers without permission and demanded payment, is indicative of the broader operation of the scam. When a friend of the car owner intervened, he was beaten and taken to Nicosia General Hospital.

Police have received reports of similar incidents, mainly outside supermarkets and shopping centers. The perpetrators, usually foreigners, replace the wipers unexpectedly and demand money. Despite the reports, few official complaints have been filed.

Police sources say that the phenomenon has been observed across Cyprus for months, but the seriousness of the latest incident brought the issue to light. The Paphos Police Directorate is conducting investigations to identify the perpetrators.
