Cyprus: Increased Security Measures Amid Terror Concerns

Cyprus Police have implemented heightened security measures amid concerns about potential terrorist attacks, particularly from "lone wolves," due to the ongoing crisis in the Middle East. Authorities have activated enhanced security protocols and are on high alert.

Byron Vyronos stated that the Police have reinforced policing of critical infrastructure and high-risk areas throughout the Republic of Cyprus. The measures include patrols and static guards in high-risk areas and at locations of Israeli interests.

The Police are in constant communication with foreign intelligence services and Europol. There are reports of Iranians in the occupied territories. A Europol representative confirmed the constant communication with Cypriot authorities and their readiness to provide support.

Anna Prokopiu Koukkidou, an international relations expert, expressed concerns about potential attacks by "lone wolves," stressing that the risk of terrorism in Europe is increased.

Recently, the Cypriot Police arrested an Azerbaijani man and his partner in connection with a terrorism case. The 28-year-old had repeatedly traveled to Iran, and there were suspicions that he was recruited by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. The arrested individuals were photographing targets related to Israel and remain in custody.
