Cyprus: Investigation Launched After Channel 4 Documentary Allegations

Cypriot authorities have launched an investigation following the broadcast of a British Channel 4 documentary, which revealed appalling working and housing conditions, as well as incidents of sexual harassment against young British women in the Famagusta free area.
According to the documentary, the women allegedly come to Cyprus through an agency to work in tourist businesses in Ayia Napa. The conditions they faced differed from the initial promises, with allegations of exploitation, unsuitable accommodation, and unacceptable behavior.
RIK's correspondent in London, Isaac Karipidis, reported that an award-winning Channel 4 journalist traveled to Cyprus and worked as a hairdresser to investigate the case, recording the events with hidden cameras.
The documentary states that nightclub owners in Ayia Napa offered work with sexual favors. Young women from Britain are paid very little, employed illegally, and threatened. The journalist noted that similar incidents occur in other parts of Europe.
