11 of the 19 lifeguard towers in the city and province of Larnaca are staffed, according to Savvas Ioannou, Administrative Officer A, Provincial Supervisor of the Lifeguard Office at the Larnaca District Administration.

As Mr. Ioannou stated, five recruitment processes have already been carried out, with the last one taking place last week. Additionally, four people will take up service in a new lifeguard tower in front of the Lenios Hotel.

Mr. Ioannou emphasized that the recruitment procedures have become stricter, requiring more experience from candidates. The criteria include training with at least three medals from lifeguard clubs, state certification, swimming 300 meters in less than 7.5 minutes, first aid knowledge, and an oral examination.

In Larnaca, lifeguard towers operate on the KOT beach, Oroklini Kiosk, Chryssopsaro, Lenios beach, Finikoudes (3), Kastella, and Mackenzie (3).

Mr. Ioannou advised swimmers, especially the elderly and those with medical problems, to be careful and avoid hours of intense sunshine.
