Nicosia: Man Assaulted at School Gym by Unknown Assailant

An incident occurred on October 14th at a closed gymnasium in the Nicosia district when an unknown man entered the premises and assaulted a man who was watching a volleyball practice.

According to the report, the Greek Cypriot man was suddenly attacked by an unknown man who appeared to be under the influence of alcohol. The assailant allegedly punched the man in the face, causing bruises and abrasions.

The police, in cooperation with the Evrychou Police Station and the Morfou CID, managed to identify the perpetrator as a 34-year-old from the United States, who had arrived in Cyprus on September 17, 2025, via Paphos airport.

The suspect was arrested and brought before the Nicosia District Court on October 16, 2025. The court imposed conditions for his release, including the payment of a €5,000 bail. Because he did not pay the bail, he remained in custody. The trial is scheduled for November 10, 2025.

The United States Embassy has been informed of the arrest.
