Nicosia: Gastroenterologist's Appeal Rejected in Indecent Assault Case

The Court of Appeal definitively rejected the appeal of a gastroenterologist sentenced to four months in prison for four indecent assaults against a young female patient in Nicosia.

The incident took place on August 28, 2020, in a private clinic. The patient, after a colonoscopy and while under intravenous sedation, was kissed on the mouth by the doctor, despite her reactions.

The first instance Court had accepted the complainant's testimony as honest, consistent and coherent, giving weight to the immediate messages she sent to her partner after the incident.

The Court of Appeal rejected the doctor's claims, as well as the appeal of the Prosecuting Authority for an increase in the sentence, considering the initial sentence fair and lawful.
