Logginos: Over 90% of Fires are Man-Made

Over 90% of fires in Cyprus are caused by human activities, according to the Chief Fire Officer of the Fire Service, Nikos Logginos. The statement was made at the opening of Fire Safety Week, co-organized by the Fire Service and ERB Insurance.
Mr. Logginos stated that the Fire Service responds to approximately 8,500 calls annually, of which 5,000 relate to fires in rural areas and 3,500 in urban areas. These fires are caused by negligence, recklessness, deliberate burning, or arson.
Fire Safety Week aims to inform and raise public awareness about fire hazards and the correct response in the event of an outbreak. The events will culminate on April 25th at Paphos Castle.
The Minister of Justice, Kostas Fytiris, stressed the importance of prevention and cooperation with society. On behalf of ERB Insurance, Takis Feidias highlighted the importance of prevention and information.
As part of the event, ERB Insurance handed over two fire simulation systems to the Fire Service, worth €40,000.
