The toll from fatal road collisions in 2025 is grim, with 45 lives lost, exceeding the 2024 count of 41 fatalities. Authorities are particularly concerned.

According to data from the Traffic Department Headquarters, the following were recorded:

  • 16 deceased motorcycle drivers
  • 1 deceased moped driver
  • 3 deceased cyclists
  • 9 deceased pedestrians
  • 13 deceased car drivers
  • 3 deceased car passengers

This year saw the highest number of motorcycle fatalities. Of the 16, 11 were wearing helmets. Most fatalities occurred on Saturdays and in the early morning hours.

The main causes are careless driving (especially due to mobile phone use), driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, and failure to keep to the left side of the road.

The Traffic Police are striving to utilize technology and are collaborating with the Department of Road Transport for the immediate suspension of driving licenses for serious violations. Intensive checks will continue until January 6, 2026.
