The Supreme Judicial Council has decided not to permanently appoint Doria Varoshiotou, a judge who had been on probation for two years.

A lawyer told ΚΥΠΕ that he saw an announcement by Ms. Varoshiotou at the Limassol District Court, stating that her services had been terminated. Ms. Varoshiotou was the coroner in the case of Thanasis Nikolaou, issuing a finding of strangulation, which the Legal Service disagreed with.

It is noted that, according to ΚΥΠΕ, it is unusual to rare for a judge not to be permanently appointed after a two-year probationary period. There is no official announcement yet from the Supreme Judicial Council.

Based on the justice reform, there is a provision for appeal to the Supreme Constitutional Court.
