Lawyers for the 25-year-old accused of arson in the Gerokomeio area of Patras claim their client was a volunteer trying to extinguish the fire.

According to the lawyers, the 25-year-old was in the area "solely as a volunteer to assist in the extinguishing." They claim he was with three other people, two of whom have already testified that he actively participated in the effort to combat the fire.

The lawyers also cite a Fire Department report stating that "the specific fire was not caused by human action but was the result of the known natural phenomenon of 'spotting'."

The attorneys are Theofanis A. Christopoulos and Panagiotis S. Kapotas.
