Cyprus Medical Association Suspends Gastroenterologist's License for Indecent Assault

The Disciplinary Board of the Pancyprian Medical Association (PIS) has suspended the license of gastroenterologist Pavlos Antoniou for three years, following his conviction for indecent assault on a patient. The decision was issued on September 3, 2025.
Antoniou, 54, was convicted by the Nicosia District Court (case 627/2021) and sentenced to four months in prison. His appeal was rejected in July 2025, leading to the disciplinary proceedings.
The incidents occurred on August 28, 2020, at Hippocratio Hospital, during a colonoscopy on a patient under anesthesia. The court found that Antoniou kissed the patient on the mouth three times, causing psychological trauma.
Despite defense efforts for leniency, the Board emphasized the seriousness of abusing the doctor-patient trust.
In addition to the suspension, Antoniou is required to pay €4,500 for legal costs and €410 for stenographer fees.
