Warning: Accommodation Booking Platform Scam

The Cyprus Consumers' Association is urging increased vigilance due to a rise in reports of online fraud using the name of a popular accommodation booking platform.

According to the Association's Legal Officer, Virginia Christou, 15 complaints have been recorded in recent days. Scammers are sending messages that appear to be from the platform, using the logo and consumer information, such as booking details and contact information.

These messages request a payment of around €100 to confirm the booking. Consumers who responded were charged a significant portion of the total accommodation cost, without the amount reaching the platform.

The Consumers' Association urges caution, stressing that major platforms do not request additional payments via email or suddenly change their procedures.

In addition, complaints have been filed regarding holiday packages that were not executed or were only partially executed. The Association calls on consumers to claim compensation for violations of their rights.
