Warning! Phone Scams Targeting Bank Accounts

Police are warning the public about phone scams aimed at stealing money from bank accounts. Perpetrators contact citizens and companies, posing as interested buyers of products or services.

They request bank account details, including the IBAN, under the pretext of payment. Subsequently, a second individual, impersonating a bank employee, contacts the victims, claiming they have been victims of fraud and requests account access details to 'help' recover the funds.

The perpetrators speak Greek and use virtual numbers that resemble those of banks. Police advise not to disclose sensitive information such as passwords and PINs, and to verify instructions for money transfers.
