The Nicosia District Court has imposed a €40,000 fine on the Electricity Authority of Cyprus (EAC), following prosecution for violations of occupational Safety and Health legislation.

The violations relate to a workplace accident that resulted in the fatal injury of one EAC employee and the serious injury of a second. The accident occurred during work, when a short circuit occurred.

The EAC was accused of inadequate guidance and supervision, failure to assess risks, lack of specialized training, and failure to maintain a fire extinguisher.

One of the injured workers succumbed to his injuries on June 22, 2021.
