Rhodes: Scam with Fake Electricity Employees – Money and Jewelry Stolen
Share on:

In Rhodes, a well-organized ring was deceiving citizens, stealing money and jewelry under the pretext of an impending explosion in their homes due to electrical problems.

The perpetrators, posing as employees of DEH or DEDDIE, would call the victims and persuade them to place money and valuables in basins with aluminum foil outside their homes, claiming this would prevent the explosion. They would then steal them.

According to the police, the ringleader operates outside the island and uses multiple telephone lines. Despite warnings, several citizens fell victim to the scam.

A characteristic case is that of September 3, 2025, when the perpetrators struck simultaneously in various parts of Rhodes. One woman lost $6,700, €600, and jewelry worth approximately €5,250.

A 19-year-old was arrested but released after returning some of the stolen goods.

Police authorities urge citizens never to hand over money or valuables to strangers posing as utility company employees.
