Land Registry Records at the Heart of the Aykut Case

The proceedings in the case of Simon Aykut, who faces charges of embezzling Greek Cypriot properties in the occupied territories, continued before the Permanent Criminal Court of Nicosia. The land registry records were central to the proceedings.
During the proceedings, the Officer A' of the Department of Land Registry, Andreas Chatziraftis, was examined as a prosecution witness. His testimony concerned the developments of the Afik Group in Trikomo, Akanthou and Agios Amvrosios of Kyrenia, with the names Ceasar Resort, Ceasar Breeze, Ceasar Bay and Caesar Cliff.
Mr. Chatziraftis explained how he identified the satellite images sent by the Police with the GSI system of the Department of Land Registry, in order to locate the plots and their owners.
Defense attorney Maria Neophytou focused on the fact that property certificates differ from registration certificates, which are considered property titles.
The proceedings before the Criminal Court will continue on September 9 and 15.
