Unpaid Traffic Tickets Pile Up for Rental Cars in Cyprus

A serious issue has arisen regarding the handling of traffic camera violations by rental car users in Cyprus. Hundreds of traffic tickets remain undelivered due to insufficient information to locate the drivers.

According to sources, some rental agencies provide inadequate information, such as the tourist's name and hotel, which are often inaccurate or outdated. As a result, offenders cannot be located, and tickets are piling up.

The Police have requested a change in legislation to require rental agencies to provide specific information about renters. Shifting the responsibility to the agencies in case of non-delivery of the ticket is also under consideration.

For Turkish Cypriot offenders, the creation of a list to be handed over to checkpoints for control and delivery of tickets is being promoted.
