Police Officer Arrested in Larnaca for Aiding Prisoner

A police officer serving in the Larnaca Police Department was arrested today by the Internal Affairs Service based on a court warrant.
He is being investigated for the following offenses:
- Abuse of power.
- Fraud and breach of trust by a public official.
- Transfer of a mobile phone or portable communication device to police holding cells.
- Neglect of official duty.
- Violation of official secrecy / disclosure of state secrets.
- Disobedience to provisions of laws imposing a duty.
- Bribery of a public official.
- Transactions with representatives indicating corruption (according to the Prevention of Corruption Law).
- Illicit acquisition of property benefit.
According to the evidence under investigation, the officer allegedly provided his mobile phone to a detainee, who made several calls.
The investigations are ongoing.
