Turkish Cypriot Arrested for Smuggling Hides and Cigarettes

On April 22nd and 23rd, 2026, at the Agios Dometios crossing point, a Turkish Cypriot was arrested by Customs Department officials for two separate smuggling incidents.

In the first incident, 75 kg of bovine hides were found in his vehicle. He was released after paying €500 for an out-of-court settlement.

In the second incident, 175 cartons of cigarettes, 100 cartons of heated cigarettes, and 6 kg of hookah tobacco were confiscated, as they did not bear the necessary markings in Greek and Turkish. The arrested individual is expected to appear before the Nicosia District Court tomorrow.
