Man Arrested with 15kg of Tobacco at Ledra Street Crossing

A man of Romanian nationality was arrested at the Ledra Street crossing point on 26/1/2025, while transporting 15kg of rolling tobacco from the occupied territories to the free areas.

During inspection, customs officials found that the tobacco packages did not bear the necessary health warnings in either Greek or Turkish, indicating they were untaxed.

The arrested man was brought before the Nicosia District Court the following day, where a two-day detention order was issued. Authorities are investigating the case, as there are indications that the man intended to transport the tobacco to the United Kingdom via Paphos Airport.
