The Cyprus Police played a crucial role in the identification, arrest, and conviction of a 53-year-old man in the US for online child sexual abuse. The man was sentenced to 12 years in prison.

The investigation began in 2020 by the Cyber Crime Division, which determined that the suspect resided in the US and had a long history of targeting children in various states.

After informing US authorities, the FBI New York took over the case, working closely with investigators from the Cyber Crime Division. The investigation led to the identification of more victims, aged between 13 and 17.

The 53-year-old was sentenced on January 29, 2026, to 12 years in prison without the possibility of parole. The Cyprus Police emphasizes the importance of international cooperation in combating transnational crimes against children.
