Two Turkish Cypriots Remain in Custody over Arrest of Five Greek Cypriots in Occupied Territories

The detention of an 83-year-old Turkish Cypriot land broker, who was arrested in the occupied territories in connection with the case of five Greek Cypriots, has been extended for three days. The five Greek Cypriots have been detained for ten days.

The land broker and his son were arrested on July 23. The son was released, while the father is being held on charges of violating the "laws on the protection of personal data."

At the "district court" of Trikomo, the "police" stated that the property title information in the file held by the Greek Cypriots bore the seal and signature of the land broker. 3,000 emails in his email are under investigation.

The land broker's lawyer argued that the case is political, not legal.

An employee of the "Land Registry" of Kyrenia has also been detained since July 31, charged with violating the "laws on the protection of personal data" and "abuse of power." The "police" claim that the employee gave the information to the land broker.

The "court" ordered the detention of both for three days.
