Vaccinations Continue for Foot-and-Mouth Disease

Vaccinations to combat foot-and-mouth disease are ongoing, with the second dose administered to 37.6% of cattle and 10.6% of sheep and goats, according to veterinary services.

Sotiria Georgiadou, a representative of the veterinary services, stated that no new cases have been reported. Vaccines for pigs have already been received.

A total of 28,516 sheep and goats and 1,910 cattle have been euthanized. Regarding a published video, Ms. Georgiadou mentioned that in cases where animals are large and dangerous, the hunting and fauna service has the right to use firearms to complete the euthanasia.

Stavros Malas, head of the scientific committee, emphasized the genetic value of local breeds and the need to protect them.
